Bird-Parasite Coevolution: Adaptations for Life Within Feathers

Bird-Parasite Coevolution: Adaptations for Life Within Feathers In-Person

Join Professor Chris Harbison of Siena College for a talk about host-parasite coevolution focusing on adaptations birds have for combating parasites, the reciprocal adaptations of parasites for evading host defenses, and how this antagonistic dynamic plays out over long periods of time. He and his students have recently done research on pheromones used by bird feather parasites to communicate with each other. Cosponsored by the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society.
