After reading her new book, A Sky That Sings, author Anita Sanchez will introduce the children to the art of bird listening, as practiced in the book by Mia, a child who is blind. Participants will listen to some recorded bird conversations, and will try to figure out what the birds are saying, as well as learn to identify some common bird calls. For children in grades K-4, accompanied by an adult. Please register children online or in-person in the Children's Room.
What to Expect:
- Children and their caregiver will sit on floor mats placed in a circle.
- The author will read from her book, Bird Song.
- Participants will then listen to some recorded bird conversations.
- There will be bird artifacts --feathers, etc that children can touch.
- The author will spread out a quilt and children can take a natural item to start their own collection.
Sensory:
- There will be bright overhead lights.
- Some bird calls may be loud.
Supports:
- There will be sensory items available if needed.
- Children are welcome to leave the room if they need to and then return later.
