James Thompson grew up in Ithaca and attended Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, SUNY Albany and Syracuse University. He worked in city and county government in Rochester/Monroe County before moving to Chicago where he taught public administration at the University of Illinois – Chicago for 25 years prior to his retirement in 2021. He and his wife Pam now live in Saratoga Springs.
